The Echo of a Distant Voice

"From the ends of the earth I will cry out to you when my heart faints" (Psalms 61:2).

The psalmist told the Lord the place from where he raised that prayer. But he gives some very strange coordinates, he speaks of an extremely strange place: he told God that he called him from "the end of the earth". Until today, no geographer, no historian, nor the most sophisticated global positioning system (GPS) could say with the slightest accuracy where that place is on the globe, on the world map.

Another version says: "Lord: I am speaking to you from the last corner of the world". Now, where is the last corner of this world? We all know where it is. You know it and I know it too. We have been there many times. The last corner of the world is that place where the sorrows are gigantic, where the problems multiply, where the presence of God weakens us, where we feel that we are alone and abandoned.

In the farthest corner of the world we come to feel that the Lord has forgotten us or that he is slow to help us, and our faith falters. More than a place, the last corner of the world is a set of adverse and dangerous circumstances. But the most important thing is this: it is a place perfectly known to God.

King David knew that God knew the location of the "farthest corner of the world" perfectly. That's why it was brought up in the most natural way possible. He knew that God would understand, that he did not have to explain much because the Lord knew how to get there.

God can very quickly reach the end of the earth. Nothing is far from God; there is nothing far for him. Not! No one is so far away, that God cannot reach him. No one is so far away that God can't see them. There is no place where God cannot reach with his help. It doesn't matter where you are… God knows that way!
