Firm to the End

"Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a fountain whose branches stretch out over the wall. They embittered him, and arrows shot at him, and the archers hated him; but his bow remained mighty" (Gen. 49:22-24 ).

Of all the servants of God in the Old Testament, Joseph is perhaps the most perfect. Although the Scriptures do not point to any apparent defect in his character, we know very well that his path was not an easy one.

When did his difficulties begin? Certainly, it was with his dreams, which represent a spiritual vision. Through them, Joseph saw what God was going to do, and his own place in God's plan. It was his dreams that started his troubles.

Joseph saw what his brothers couldn't see. They called him "the dreamer" and plotted his downfall. In this way, he was sold as a slave, and his feet were afflicted with shackles (Ps. 105:17-18). Yet he survived it all, ultimately becoming the means God used to accomplish a great purpose in his people. The one he can see, remains until the end.
