The Last Song

"There will be a righteous one who rules among men, who rules in the fear of God. It will be like the morning light, like the sun shining on a cloudless morning, like the rain that makes the grass sprout from the earth" (2 Samuel 23:3-4).

We all know that music is used as a powerful instrument to transmit messages of any kind: positive, such as love, friendship, solidarity; but also negative messages, such as war, drugs, violence, unbridled sex.

The message of David's last song is undoubtedly a hopeful message, a message that even today speaks to us of light and blessings, peace and prosperity. No one will ever be able to sing a song that brings as much hope as this one. When God composed it, he left no chance for another not even similar to be written. And David had to write it and sing it. And it was his last song.

When his lips parted to sing for the last time, he described the kind of life that would befall those who would believe in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ: light, a light mightier than the darkness of men; light so powerful that it would pierce the thick clouds of the tragedies of humanity, of the weaknesses of men, of the baseness of the human soul; light that would shine above the luminosity of any other light; light that would germinate the seed of life of all humanity.

David said in his last song that Christ would enlighten the souls of men and give them life and spiritual growth: "It will be like the brightness of the sun on a cloudless morning". What a beautiful description!

As we join David in singing this his last song, we can feel as if we are rising above our storms, leaving behind the black stormy clouds and seeing the shining sun. Yes, we are above our storms!
