Talents

In Matthew 25:14-30 we find the parable of the talents. By coming to earth, Jesus brought us the kingdom of heaven, and introduced us into his kingdom. And not only that, but he left us his goods, his wealth.

Ephesians 4:7 says: "For to each of us grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ." And further on, in verse 12, "for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ."

Christ is our inheritance, our riches; everything is in Christ and he is in us. The Lord works in different ways through us, because each believer has a role in the body of Christ. It does not matter that someone has ten talents, and another one. The talent is Christ in us, and each member is indispensable. Although the servant in the parable only had one talent, the Lord expected the interest of that talent.

Matthew 24:45 says: "Who then is the faithful and prudent servant, whom his Lord placed over his house to give them food on time?" As you read this verse, don't think of the servant as someone other than yourself. You are a servant in the house of God! The Lord has left us his goods and, as he says in Ephesians: "For to each of us grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ." So all believers have been given the gift, which is Christ in us.

When a believer knows what is in the heart of God, he holds the key to the entire Bible. Our spiritual eyes begin to see that the only thing God wants is to have his expression, his church, which is the image of his Son.

So the Lord has put us over his house, but for what? So that we may be faithful servants, who give food to those in the house in due time. The Lord is at the door and the night is already advanced. Christ wants his body to continue to grow, that we continue to be nourished by him. So the inheritance that the Lord has given you is for the body; the gift that he has given you is for those of the house. Only by allowing Christ, as the gift in you, to be transmitted, will you be a faithful servant.

The Lord has only one business and this business is the building of his house. We are the servants who have these talents, and we must deliver the interest to the Lord. The Lord has given us his life in our spirit (talent), but he wants this life to spread to our whole being (interests).

The wicked servant did not care about the Lord's business from him; he was in his own business, investing in this world. So the talent that the Lord had given him was of no use to him or to those of the house. This servant did not let this life intrude into his practical living, he did not want to take up his cross to gain more of Christ. This is the way we earn interest. By taking up our cross, we gain more of Christ and he extends more into our being. The Lord left us his life, but he comes for his own, plus the interests.
