Spiritual Springtime

"Everything has its moment; everything that happens under heaven happens according to a plan" (Eccl. 3:1).

Spring is the propitious season for sowing. It is a time of hard work, of much effort. And the farmer not only sows the seeds, but also takes care of them. What is sown is not forgotten, but remains at the center of the sower's thoughts.

This is a time of attentions, of special care. During this season, what is planted is cared for and fertilized while there is a great showiness, joy and many colors; it is a very pleasant time for the sight and the rest of the senses. Exquisite scents, lively colors, exciting textures.

Almost everyone longs for spring. However, during this period the plants do not bear fruit either; here too there is an absence of fruit.

Now, what does spring symbolize for the Christian? It is the time when we work the most in the work of the Lord: effort, time, sacrifices. We worry about our spiritual life... and we await with hope the arrival of better times!

There is much color, much showiness; however, it is not a time of spiritual fruits, we do not harvest anything in the spiritual spring. It is the time when we feel good, there are no problems, there are no tribulations, there is solace... and we tend to be satisfied with that and pure showiness, but there is no true spiritual depth.

Many believers show in this season a certain attractiveness, signs of their prosperity and even certain boasts of great works; but they have not yet received that spiritual fruit that they long for, that desire of the heart for which so much has been prayed, cried and hoped for.

It is not yet the time... though its manifestation draws nearer and nearer!
