Where is the Treasure?

In this "Western Christian" society, money and wealth are two of the most important goals of man today. But Jesus said: "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break in and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven ... for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matt. 6:19-21).

All men seek to accumulate riches, in case they can diminish a little the insecurity of life and the fear of the future. They think that by having riches they will be able to have peace of mind; but the Lord Jesus said that man's life does not consist in the abundance of the goods he possesses.

In our days we see a real madness to improve the economic situation, as if that were the whole of man. And many presume to be "observant" Christians. But Christ said: "You cannot serve God and Mammon" (Matt. 6:24). Both ways are incompatible. Many serve Mammon because they do not know God. This is, to some extent, understandable. But there are also many who claim to know God, and also serve Mammon, which is not so understandable.

Be that as it may, the root of the problem is that those who do not have their treasure in heaven, try to do so here below. The treasure of Christians is Christ who is in heaven, and that is where they direct their gaze and the most precious desires of their hearts. Above is a place inaccessible to moth, to rust and to thieves. There is no key capable of opening the safe that God has above, where he keeps the treasure of his beloved children.

Do you want to lay up treasure in heaven, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God? (Col. 3:1). Repent of your sins, receive Christ into your heart, and he will transform everything in your life, even the affections of your heart. Then you will have true security.

As we see, being a Christian is something very different from what you think it is today. You must come out of the deception in which this civilization is enclosed. From today you are responsible before God. Mankind will one day be judged before the divine tribunal, for "it is appointed unto all men once to die, and after this the judgment" (Heb. 9:27).

To be a true Christian, you must place yourself in God's hands so that he can transform you into a new creature. Embrace the grace, the salvation that God offers you in Christ Jesus!
