The Time of the Lord

"Then Jesus said to them: My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready" (John 7:6).

We often find in the Scriptures that God is a God of deadlines and very definite times. According to his eternal plan and his absolute knowledge of all circumstances, he unfolds events with precision, in the right time and space.

When reading Genesis 1, we are already impressed by God's order in creation and the deadlines for everything. Then, when contemplating the course of events, how they occurred in time until concluding with the advent of the Lord Jesus and his glorious work on the cross, we perceive a superior mind and will, which is what regulates us too, and whose designs we do well to heed.

The Lord himself, in his approximately 33 years of earthly life, showed signs of subjection to God's times and seasons. He did not anticipate or delay the time of the cross, but walked towards it. He refused everything that he could anticipate it, as well as everything that could delay it. He said: "My time has not yet come". When he affirmed his face to go up to Jerusalem, he did it because the hour had come. Men could plan his life and move according to their own will, but he could not.

From the day we decided to consecrate ourselves to the Lord, he must have all the control of our times and seasons. We know nothing what is best for his glory. Only he can move us or stop us. Our deadlines may not suit the Lord, although they seem to us the most appropriate. His thoughts and his ways are higher than ours.

He alone is Lord. We are only his servants.
